Isolagen Patient's Journey: What happens during Treatment
Initial Consultation
The potential patient attends an initial consultation with their practitioner during which their suitability is determined. The practitioner will then talk the patient through the process, efficiency and outcome.
Initial Consultation
The Isolagen treatment starts by taking a small 3mm sample of skin from behind the ear on the soft skin below the hairline, using a special punch. A local anaesthetic is given, similar to one received from the dentist, and then the tissue is removed. The skin samples contain fibroblast cells (those responsible for producing collagen). This is then placed in a sterile container and sent to the Isolagen Cellular Facility. A re-absorbable stitch is used to close the wound.
Pre-Treatment
Once the small skin sample has gone to the Cellular Facility, it takes approximately eight to ten weeks to grow the patient's cells to sufficient numbers using the patented Isolagen cell expansion process. The Isolagen technicians monitor the growth of the cells very closely to ensure that they are reintroduced to the patient only when they are in their optimum condition and number. As the cells are about to reach an optimum number, the practitioner will advise the patient of the treatment date.
The Treatment
The procedure takes about 10 minutes, once the topical anaesthetic or local anaesthetic has become effective.
The practitioner will use a very fine (30-gauge) needle. There are two main injection techniques used in the treatment. These are linear threading and serial puncturing, which are both typically into the upper, middle and deep dermal layers of skin. This allows the fibroblasts to be distributed throughout all levels of the dermis.
Post Treatment
Once the injections have been completed, an ice pack may be placed on the injection site for several minutes to reduce any swelling.
Isolagen's clinical experience advises that patients see optimum results after three sessions, however many begin to see the effects as early as the first or second sessions. Conducting three sessions of injections allows the fibroblasts to settle down for a period of time before more are introduced.
Aftercare
The practitioner will advise the patient of the best skin care program following the Isolagen treatment, which generally includes not actively sunbathing for a period of time and using sun block.
Consultation & Assessment
Before embarking on any course of treatments, a consultation and assessment is required in order that your requirements are fully discussed and
the potential outcome is explained to you.
