Chin Refinement
On occasion a patient may consult a surgeon for nose re-shaping due to concerns about their
profile. In fact, it is sometimes the case that the chin is "weak" and increasing the size will
balance the profile.
Chin Augmentation is a procedure whereby a silicone implant is inserted to increase the size
of the chin. It is usually carried out with a general anaesthetic and an overnight stay in
hospital may be required.
Chin reduction. If the chin protrudes too much, a reduction may be suggested. Dependent
upon the reduction required, this can range from the minimal reduction technique of
removing some excess tissue and a slight reduction of the bone to a more complicated
procedure involving more bone reduction, or resetting.
Your consultant will advise you in detail on the procedure most suitable for your condition
and may, in some instances, refer you on a maxillo-facial surgeon.
Ear Correction - Pinnaplasty
Pinnaplasty, also known as Otoplasty, is the procedure to correct prominent ears (bat ears).
Those who are unfortunate enough to have prominent ears frequently grow up with taunts
and teases.
The ears continue to grow until the age of seven and the operation may not be considered
until then, but usually it is best carried out when the child understands and is able to cope
with the dressings.
Pinnaplasty can be carried out under local or general anaesthetic (usually recommended for
children) and may be carried out simultaneously with most other facial surgeries.
Following surgery, the ears may be covered with a large head dressing which should be worn
for one week. After this it is advisable to wear a tennis headband for 6 weeks, although due
to pressures of school or work, it may only be possible to wear the headband at night.
The correction of Prominent Ears is one of the most common and pleasing operations in
cosmetic surgery. The results are ever lasting giving the ears a 'normal' appearance and the
individual increased confidence.
